After a peaceful Tsilhqot’in protest prevented them from beginning work near Williams Lake last week, Taseko Mines is looking to the courts.
Taseko had planned to move in equipment to perform exploratory drilling for their New Prosperity Gold and Copper Mine last Tuesday.
But a protest camp set up by Tsilhqot’in members prevented them from passing through.
When trucks arrived at the camp, a brief and peaceful discussion was held between the two sides before the Taseki vehicles departed.
Now, the company says they intend to pursue a court injunction to grant their employees access to the area.
Taseko had previously acquired a work permit through the BC Courts despite opposition from the Nation on both the federal and provincial scales.
Tsilhqot’in members say they intend to continue to fight the project in courts, saying it puts land they consider sacred at risk.
