The closure of a forest products mill in the South Cariboo will affect 160 workers.
Norbord has announced a plan to indefinitely curtail production at its oriented strand board operation in 100 Mile House.
The company says the mountain pine beetle epidemic and significant wildfires have spurred a mounting wood supply shortage.
It says the shortage, combined with high wood prices, makes operating the mill uneconomical.
Norbord President and CEO Peter Wijnbergen calls it a difficult decision resulting from extraordinary circumstances.
The company says its other OSB mills, including High Level and Grande Prairie, Alberta will continue to meet current and future customer demand.
The 100 Mile House operation will shut down in August.
