The BC Wildfire Service says smoke seen east of Prince Rupert is most likely due to opening burning.
Officials say there are no recorded wildfire starts in the area, but there are two registered burns on file.
The Northwest Fire Centre says conditions are favourable for pile burning, so more smoke may be seen in the near future.
