For the first time in the province’s history, there are more than 5 million people who can call themselves British Columbians.
In their most recent count, performed in October and released last week, Stastics Canada estimated BC’s population to be 5 million, 16 thousand and 322, the highest it’s ever been.
Stats Can credits the boost to strong immigration levels, and an influx of young residents taking advantage of the prospering economy and post-secondary education.
Only New Foundland, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories saw a drop when compared to the previous count.
In total, Canada’s population is estimated at roughly 37.2 million.
