BC’s mountain caribou population has now been declared under imminent threat.
Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna made the announcement yesterday following a study performed by environmental group Wildsight last month.
The group determined that populations of mountain caribou were at their lowest point ever, with just 7 animals left in the Southern Rockies and Southern Purcell herds.
McKenna says immediate intervention is required if they are ever to recover, and is planning to speak with Environment Ministry officials in BC and Alberta on how to move forward.
