The Gitxsan Development Corporation and UNBC have teamed up to offer Indigenous people a chance to train for a career in aborignial tourism.
The five-week, fully funded program will deliever a complex circulum to 16 students consisting of networking, marketing, customer service, product development, and cultural interpretation.
UNBC Course Coordinator Rob Bryce says anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged to apply as well people currently working in the realm of aborginial tourism. He adds field trips, guest speakers, and current tourist guides will play a role in this new course.
The British Columbia tourism industry says the aborginal sector speficially has experienced a revenue growth of $32 million over the last ten years. A strategic partnership initiative was created in 2010 to help handle the quick growth the industry has taken on.
A free information session on the aboriginal tourism program will be held at the Gitxsan Development Office January 10th starting at 2 p.m. Prospective students are encourgaged to attend.
