A recently released report that was done by Canada’s Auditor General regarding how to properly manage emergencies in First Nations communities is being commended by Indigenous Services Canada.
As shown by events like last year’s serious flooding and the usually rough Wildfire seasons in BC, First Nations communities deal with increased risks from the threats posed by natural hazards.
And with the report’s release, the Auditor General was thanked by Indigenous Services Canada for the report as well as the seven recommendations that were made in it.
Those recommendations reportedly highlight important and critical gaps in responding to emergencies and preparing for them that need to be addressed.
Indigenous Services Canada is in the midst of developing a comprehensive action plan to address the report recommendations as well as ensure that they do everything they can to support First Nations and help protect them from natural hazards.
