A group of Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs arrived in Winnipeg yesterday as they continue their cross-Canada Nation-to-Nation Tour.
Dubbed the Strengthening our Sovereignty: Nation to Nation Tour, the trip will see them visit a number of other Indigenous communities over 18 days.
Their tour got started earlier this month, with a visit with the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council in Ontario.
Yesterday, they met with fellow Indigenous leaders from Winnipeg, including land defenders from Camp Morningstar, which was established to oppose a sand mine near Lake Winnipeg.
During the trip, the Chiefs seek to discuss development, land disputes, government issues, and other challenges facing First Nations, as they look to strengthen unity and solidarity.
They are also looking to gain support in their long standing battle to halt the construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
