West Fraser Timber has announced new permanent curtailments, which will impact 147 jobs as part of a new operating plan.
That plan will see one shift at each of their sawmills in Williams Lake and Fraser Lake cut, as well as a shift at their Quesnel Plywood Mill.
Over the course of 2022’s fourth quarter, the cuts will impact 77 positions in Fraser Lake, 55 in Quesnel, and 15 in Williams Lake.
In addition, the company will curtail production of approximately 170 million board feet of sawmill production, and 85 million square feet of plywood production.
But, West Fraser says they plan to mitigate the impacts on workers by providing opportunities at other company operations.
They say the capacity reductions are a result of increasing challenges in accessing timber supplies in BC.
