According to a recent report from the Coroners Service, the province saw suspected 16 heat-related deaths as the result of the recent heat wave.
Stretching from late July to early August, the heat wave saw temperatures climb into the mid-30s across much of the North.
Despite this, 0 heat-related deaths were recorded in Northern Health, though the Interior saw the second most of any Authority with 6.
Of the 16 total suspected deaths, 9 were among those aged 70 and older, while 6 were between the age of 70 and 78.
While it remains a far cry from the 619 deaths reported during last year’s Heat Dome, it’s still alarming when compared to the three total heat-related deaths recorded between 2010 and 2020.
