Earlier today, Pope Francis started his final stop on his tour of Canada at Iqaluit and was greeted by Politicians, Inuit throat singers, Residential school survivors and drummers among the crowds.
To start off the Pontiff’s schedule, he first met in private with Residential School survivors as throat singers and drummers performed for a crowd in front of Nakasuk school.
This visit culminated in the Pope making a speech outside of the local elementary school where the Pontiff further reiterated his apologies over the evil acts perpetrated by Catholics in the Residential School system.
This was the Pope’s first ever visit to the newest Canadian territory and to some, a point where the relationship between Canada’s Indigenous people and the Catholic Church can start to find positive grounds.
He will soon begin making his way back to Vatican City.
