Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a new investment into expanding the Ocean Protection Plan.
Announced in Budget 2022, an investment of $2 billion will be used to expand protection initiatives as the second phase starts.
This adds to the initial investment of $1.5 billion which was established in 2016 at the start of the plan.
With the investment, 15 new measures will be established to develop the protection plan to include more regions and combat emerging marine safety threats.
39 existing initiatives are also set to expand including protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems, and advancing partnerships with indigenous and coastal communities to work together.
