Over the weekend, Pope Francis gave a statement on what he hoped to achieve during his upcoming visit to Canada.
Yesterday, he said that his trip will be what he called a “Pilgrimage of Penance” and that he can hopefully help Indigenous peoples heal from the wrongs they suffered at the hands of Roman Catholic Priests and Nuns who were in charge of Residential Schools.
Pope Francis will be visiting Canada between the 24th and 29th, during which time he’ll make stops in Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit.
His itinerary will focus on Indigenous activities, such as a visit to the former Ermineskin Residential School, south of Edmonton.
And for Residential School Survivors seeking emotional support, A gathering is set to be held in Terrace on the 25th and 26th at the Kitsumkalum Community Centre, providing just that.
Breakfast will be served at 8:00 each morning, after which the events of the Pope’s visit will be livestreamed.
