$8.4 million in new provincial funding will help to eliminate anti-Indigenous racism from BC’s community social services sector.
With that funding, the province will develop a reconciliation framework for the sector over the next 5 years.
Part of that framework will establish a new master’s degree program for business administration in Indigenous reconciliation.
That program will focus on building capacity, implementing cultural safety, and supporting succession planning in social services.
In addition, the framework will also create an Indigenous cultural safety training program, and expand and customize existing anti-racism tools to inform when cultural safety training is needed.
Through the framework, they hope to address systemic racism and the barriers which create challenges to accessing social services for Indigenous people.
