Around 84 local governments and First Nations in BC are expected to receive provincial emergency-preparedness funding in order to improve all their local emergency operations centres and make sure they are well equipped to deal with any local emergencies.
In total, $3.2 million is going to be spread between all the different nations and communities.
Some of the areas getting funding include the Cariboo Regional District getting $10,663.29 for emergency training and equipment upgrades, the Nuxalk First Nation receiving $25,000 for an emergency center generator, $50,000 going to Smithers, Telkwa and the surrounding area for mobile operations and the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc getting $24,130.91 for emergency training and equipment.
The funding is being provided as a part of Budget 2022, in order to help communities rebuild and/or protect themselves from disasters.
