Warmer and dryer conditions expected across the province later this month will lead to an increase in fire risk, according to the Wildfire Service.
While the North has begun to see moderate wildfire activity, rainfall has been more generous to other parts of the province.
But, the Wildfire Centre’s most recent seasonal outlook predicts wildfire risks and fire danger ratings to boom this month.
To help prepare, the province has made $25 million in funding for wildfire reduction activities available to the Forest Enhancement Society of BC.
Through them, communities can apply for funding for projects which help with wildfire planning and treatment, risk reduction, and recovering and utilization of residual fibre.
More than 260 projects in BC have been supported by the Society to date, 43 of them in partnership with First Nations.
