A renewed agreement with the province and Canada will see the Tŝilhqot’in National Government continue to play a strong role in emergency management on their territory.
With their new 5 year Collaborative Emergency Management Agreement, the trio look to build on the previous agreement, signed in 2018.
Under the agreement, the parties will co-develop and implement strategies which enhance the role and capacity of the Nation with regards to emergency management.
It will create a structure for collaboration ensuring the Nation is at the table and informing decisions that affect them, while prioritizing Indigenous knowledge.
To support those endeavours, Ottawa is providing $250,000 annually over the next 5 years to support related initiatives.
An additional $225,000 is also being provided for the initiatives by Indigenous Services Canada.
