Contract negotiations between the province and the union representing more than 33,000 public service employees have broken down.
Last month, nearly 95 percent of public service workers represented by the BC General Employees’ Union voted in favour of a strike.
That vote came after months of up-and-down negotiations between them and the Public Service Agency, after their current contract ran up in March.
But, according to the Union, talks had been going well through the first three days of their newest negotiation period.
Last week, the Union submitted a creative proposal which included cost of living adjustments and inflation wage protection.
In response, the government countered with a “take it or leave it” offer which the Union calls unacceptable.
Now, the BCGEU is planning strategic, targeted job action, and are finalizing essential services with the Labour Relations Board.
