Due to the rising amount of overdose deaths in the Province over the past couple of years, a new program will be making its way to schools throughout BC to teach high school students and teachers how spot someone overdosing and how to handle it.
Namely, the students and teachers will be shown how to administer nasal naloxone spray in addition to learning more general information about opioids.
They will also be shown how to recognize people that are suffering from an overdose and make sure they know what to do if that person isn’t breathing.
The program will be conducted by the Advanced Coronary Treatment Foundation and their main reason for existence is to create programs similar to this one, but only for defibrillator and CPR training most of the time.
BC has seen over 9,400 suspected toxic drug overdose deaths since the beginning of 2016 and 2021 alone saw 2,224 of those deaths.
