A local state of emergency has been declared by the City of Terrace in order to conduct necessary repairs to Frank Street.
While it does cover the entire city, the declaration is solely to facilitate the Frank Street repairs, funded by Emergency Management BC, to prevent a future washout.
Frank Street will be closed to all traffic while the repairs are being made, which the City estimates should take around a week.
However, a separate state of emergency covering the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine’s Area “C” has now been lifted.
Evacuation orders for Old Remo and Usk have also been rescinded, and replaced by an evacuation alert, joining New Remo and Dutch Valley.
Also under an evacuation alert are the Ebeneezer Flats and Quick Station areas of the Bulkley Valley, as well as the Riverside Park Campground, Riverside Drive, and the Fall Fair Grounds in Smithers.
Both the Skeena and Bulkley Rivers, as well as their tributaries near Terrace, Smithers, Telkwa, Hazelton and Kispiox, are still under a Flood Watch.
A Flood Warning is in effect covering the Liard River and its tributaries near Fort Nelson and Watson Lake.
And a High Streamflow Advisory is still in place for the Stikine water basin near Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek.
Water levels in the Skeena and Bulkley have now past peak predictions.
