Acclaimed Cree scholar, and University of Northern BC professor, Dr. Margo Greenwood will be stepping in to a new role at the Canadian Institute of Health Research.
Dr Greenwood has been appointed interim Scientific Director of their Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health on a three year term.
She currently serves as Academic Leader of the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health, and as a Professor of Education at UNBC.
In her new role, Greenwood will play a leadership role in advancing Indigenous self-determination in the field, while building trusting relationships.
She will also help to establish the hiring process for the next Scientific Director alongside Indigenous communities, and will help find a way forward in respecting rights-holders unique identities.
In November Greenwood’s predecessor, Professor Carrie Bourassa was let go after a CBC article exposed her for lying about her ancestry.
Bourassa had claimed to be of Métis, Anishinaabe, and Tlingit descent, before later admitting to the contrary.
