BC Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Terry Teegee is calling the lack of a Tk’emlups te Secwepemc stop on the Pope’s Canada trip an egregious oversight.
Last week, the Vatican announced the itinerary for Pope Francis’s late-July visit, including stops in Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit.
But, noticeably absent from the list is a stop on Tk’emlups territory, where the first unmarked graves were found nearly a year ago.
Now, the Assembly is calling for the Pope to revise his plans to include a visit to the Kamloops Residential School site, something they say they will continue to press.
Pope Francis is scheduled to make his visit to Canada from July 24th to the 29th, with specific itinerary being released in the weeks before the trip.
