BC tied Ontario for the third lowest unemployment rate among all provinces in April.
According to StatsCan’s most recent labour force survey, BC saw a 5.4 percent seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate, while Canada saw a 5.2 percent rate.
Regionally, the Northcoast and Nechako region tied the Thompson-Okanagan for the highest unemployment rate in the province, at 6.1 percent.
As a whole, BC saw their unemployment rate rise from 5.1 percent in March, but it’s still well below the 7 percent registered in April of 2021.
British Columbia continues to pace the country in post-pandemic job recovery, with 92,500 more people working last month than pre-pandemic levels.
Part-time workers made up 14.9 percent of BC’s total workforce in April, and year-over-year Indigenous employment levels have increased by 20 percent.
