More than 50 First Nations and Local Governments will split nearly $2 million in fresh emergency support services funds.
Funded projects focus on increasing the resilience of communities through equipment purchases, and volunteer recruitment, training and retention.
In the Northwest, the Kitselas and Gitga’at First Nations, Gitanyow Band, and Kispiox Band Council, will each receive close to $25,000 for ESS development projects.
More than $172,000 in funding will go to the Tsilhqot’in National Government and surrounding Indigenous communities for emergency response projects.
Funding comes from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, distributed by the Union of BC Municipalities.
