Elevated levels of fine particulate matter have prompted a dust advisory and air quality statement for the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.
According to Environment Canada, road dust emission from winter traction material on the roads, combined with stagnant weather conditions, are to blame.
Residents of the South Cariboo, including Williams Lake, also find themselves under an air quality advisory.
That advisory, however, is prompted by burning emissions from wood stoves, industry, and transportation, and is also forcing an open burning restriction.
Under the restriction, no new fires may be initiated, and no materials may be added to existing fires until at least 9:00 tomorrow morning.
In the case of both advisories: pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and those with chronic conditions such as asthma, COPD, heart disease and diabetes, should avoid strenuous activities.
Those experiencing prolonged eye or throat irritation, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, or wheezing, should contact a health care provider.
