A newly released report by the Independent Investigations Office is recommending charges against two Prince George RCMP officers.
During their review in to an incident from July 2020, the Office found reasonable grounds to believe the officers committed offenses.
That incident saw the officers respond to reports of a vehicle stolen from Alberta parked on the 1400 block of Old Cariboo Highway.
When officers attended, they found a man and two women inside the vehicle, who then fled in to a nearby forest.
While the two women were arrested without incident, but the report says an interaction which left the man seriously injured then occurred, after a police dog was used to track him.
Following his arrest, the man was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Now, the IIO has forwarded their report to the Prosecution Service, saying the officers’ overuse of force may warrant charges.
