A newly signed agreement could see the Port of Prince Rupert’s capacity double in the coming years.
Signed between the Prince Rupert Port Authority and DP World, the two-year agreement aims to bring a second container terminal to the port.
Under the agreement, the parties will proceed with a feasibility study on the proposed site, south of the existing Fairview Terminal.
That study will focus on how the project can minimize its environmental and community impacts, improve supply chains, and integrate with the Port’s intermodal ecosystem.
Once the study is complete, a development plan will be finalized and submitted for regulatory review and authorization.
Indigenous knowledge and feedback will be sought and incorporated in to the planning and development process.
If approved, the proposed terminal would add two million twenty-foot-equivalent units of annual capacity to the Port of Prince Rupert.
