52 Indigenous-led commercial fishing initiatives will split just under 12 million dollars in fresh federal funding.
Funding comes from the Pacific Integrated Commercial Fisheries Initiative, and will provide support for 31 Indigenous commercial fisheries companies in BC.
Through the funding, the companies, which are spread across 117 different First Nations, will be able to expand operations, target higher quotas, undertake improvements, and hire more local workers.
In addition, funding will support four new entrants in establishing commercial fisheries companies under the program.
One such entrant includes the Gitxsan, Gitanyow, and Wet’suwet’en Nations.
