Earlier in the month, a Quesnel regular council meeting was disrupted by anti-mask and anti-vax protesters looking to speak with council about issues that concerned them.
Quesnel’s mayor, Bob Simpson, sent out a letter earlier today stating that council understands the frustration of certain people when it comes the way that council makes decisions.
However, he also made it clear that the way council operates is meant protect democracy by letting residents know what council discusses and when they discuss it.
Simpson ended his letter by saying that demanding to speak at council meetings may seem to be the most democratic thing to do, but if council were to cave to those demands, it would negate all protection of the right of citizens to know the contents of a council meeting and what time it happens.
