A Smithers-based sawmill has entered in to an agreement with a Langley-based lumber producer.
Through that agreement, Seaton Forest Products will provide San Group with cants to create value-added wood products.
Seaton, which operates out of Smithers, processes waste wood logs, which are generally burned off, in to cants to create wood products.
San Group operates a fully integrated plant in Port Alberni, where the cants will be shipped and turned in to products such as tables, chairs, moldings, and more.
San Group says they knew they wanted to work with Seaton when they heard their workforce was 75 percent Indigenous, and views their work in the forest industry as a responsibility, not a job.
They have invested heavily in recent years in to the value-added wood products sector, to help save the environment and jobs.
