Prince George – Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer is in support of the trucker-led Freedom Rally in Ottawa on Sunday.
Zimmer posted a letter in support of the protest on social media last night, adding he honked and waved to show support to local truckers as they drove by on Sunday.
Droves of truckers departed from the Northwest this weekend to join a larger group at the Country’s capitol this weekend.
In his letter, Zimmer says the newly enacted vaccination mandate for truckers to cross the border will further harm supply chains.
He also says it will leave many truckers out of work who have supported residents during the pandemic.
Throughout the week, the Canadian Trucking Alliance, who represent over 4,500 truckers and carriers, have said they support the mandate and are against the rally.
Politically, a number of Conservative MPs, including Federal leader Erin O’Toole, have spoken out in support for the Rally, while their Liberal counterparts have been against for the most part.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh also denounced the convoy, amid backlash over his brother-in-law donating to the Rally.
He has since asked for the donation to be returned.
