A search for a missing Indigenous woman tragically became a homicide investigation last week.
33 year-old Takla Nation member Carmelita Louise Abraham was reported missing on January 4th, having not been seen since late December.
On Friday, the Nation announced her passing after her body was discovered at Willow Inn in Quesnel.
Due to the nature of the disappearance and available information, the RCMP’s investigation quickly turned to a suspected homicide.
On Thursday, they arrested 51 year-old Joseph Simpson, and the following day, the Quesnel resident was charged with murder, and indignity to human remains.
Simpson will be held in custody to appear in court on February 15th.
