At a news conference earlier today, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos stated that many provinces are highly likely to begin implementing mandatory vaccination policies due to the fast rising amount of COVID cases throughout Canada.
Duclos did make sure to emphasize that whether or not these polices get put into place will be decided by the individual provinces and not the federal government.
He also mentioned that even though things like social distancing, rapid tests and masks are very useful when it comes lessening the spread of the virus, those things alone will not end the pandemic.
According to Duclos’s understanding of both recent international and domestic health minster talks, the actual discussions regarding these mandatory polices in Canada will start sometime in the next few weeks or months.
Another thing that Duclos said was that all of Canada’s provinces are in the midst of a perfect storm with the high case numbers, around seven million eligible Canadians still not being vaccinated and the severe shortage of health care workers.
