The Cariboo Regional District has made the decision to extend the length of a program designed to help residents rid themselves of wood waste.
The FireSmart Wood Waste Disposal Program, a program where Cariboo District residents can drop off wood debris from fire smart activities at a district refuse site and they’ll get rid of it, free of charge, is going to be available for a while longer although it was not specified how much longer.
The program’s main reason for existing is to get rid of any wood that could be a potential fire hazard, but the program does not cover any wood logged on private property or wood that was cleared away for property development.
Another requirement for dropping off wood at one of the refuse sites is that the wood loads needs be dirt, rock and garbage free and you could be fined if you have a contaminated load.
The sites also accept leaves, tree needles and grass clippings but they have to be separated from any wood waste.
