Beginning today, those who wish to visit BC hospitals will need to provide proof of vaccination to enter.
Visitors who are under the age of 12 are exempt from the new rule, and some exceptions can be made for those with approved medical reasons.
Some exceptions will also be made on a case-by-case basis, depending on the reason for the visit.
The new rules come in alongside a request by Northern Health for Prince Rupert residents to avoid their hospital’s emergency department unless it is completely necessary.
According to the Health Authority, inflated patient volumes, mostly due to Covid patients, are the reason behind the request.
Currently, hospital personnel are being reasigned to other departments to help out, limiting the space in emerge.
For the time being, only major complaints should go to the ER, while minor issues should be brought to your local clinic or doctor.
