After a week which saw numerous First Nations Chiefs and groups call for his resignation, Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb addressed the community last night.
Demands for Cobb to step down started flowing in after the Mayor shared a post on social media asking people to look at the “other side of Residential Schools”.
Cobb spoke on the issue during last night’s Council Meeting, saying he was sorry, but not stepping down.
Specifically, Cobb referenced an open letter posted last week by Williams Lake First Nation Chief Willie Sellars, which Cobb called a personal attack on himself.
He also said that, in hindsight, he was disappointed in his actions, a feeling his fellow councilors echoed.
While they all stressed their disapproval of the Mayor’s actions, none of the Councilors called for his resignation.
The meeting was well attended by the public, with many echoing calls for his resignation.
