Indigenous participation in the upstream oil and gas industry, both on the worker and management sides, has increased in recent years, according to a new report.
Released yesterday, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers Indigenous Engagement report, is being hailed as the most comprehensive review in to the subject ever released.
It found that Indigenous people make up 6.3 percent of the upstream industry’s workforce, nearly double the total percentage in Canada’s workforce.
It also revealed a boom in representation in senior management roles this decade, while placing the sector in the top 10 highest paid occupations for Indigenous peoples.
In 2019, the industry produced more than 2.6 billion dollars in goods from 275 Indigenous suppliers across Canada.
