Two more Wet’suwet’en land defenders have been arrested as tensions continue to escalate with Coastal GasLink.
Chief Dtsa’hyl and Kolin Sutherland-Wilson were arrested yesterday at a blockade on Shea Forest Service Road, while attempting to prevent CGL from continuing work on their pipeline.
Houston RCMP say they received multiple complaints of vandalism and stolen CGL equipment in the area, and had attempted to negotiate a settlement to end the blockade.
However, yesterday evening they were called out to the blockade, and ended up arresting one on charges of theft, and the other after reportedly finding CGL equipment in their possession.
The remainder of the blockading group was dispersed peacefully and no further arrests were made.
Meanwhile, CGL says they are becoming concerned for the safety of their workers amid the escalating tensions.
They claim that the recent blockades have cut off the safe flow of supplies to their workers, as well as access to the site via the only available route.
Chief Dtsa’hyl had been in the midst of a historic journey up the Kweese War Trail before the arrest cut it short.
