Provincial Officials took to the podium today to announce how BC plans to tackle the rollout of Covid vaccine boosters.
Research has revealed that the effectiveness of the Covid vaccine, while still essential, deteriorates over time.
Because of this, the province has decided to tier their rollout so that individuals who received the earliest original vaccinations also get the first shot at boosters.
That means boosters will only be immediately available for the elderly, the clinically vulnerable, residents of long term care and assisted living homes, health care workers who received early vaccinations initially, and those living in rural or remote Indigenous communities.
Urban Indigenous residents will also be able to register with other Health Authorities to access early boosters.
From January on, boosters will be available to anyone who received dose 2 at least 6 months prior, though they will be assigned on a priority basis.
Residents will need to sign up through the Get Vaccinated program, then await an email or text to notify you of when your shot is available.
As of this moment, boosters will not be required in the vaccine mandates, and you will be considered fully vaccinated with two doses.
