A Prince Rupert landmark will be better protected from Prince Rupert weather.
The first phase of revitalization efforts at the historic Chatham Building Complex have now wrapped up.
Constructed in the style of a traditional cedar longhouse, the building houses the Museum of Northern BC, the Gitxaala Education Centre, and Gitxaala Environmental Stewardship, along with a number of other studios.
With age, the building’s membrane began to fail, making restoration necessary to prevent leaks.
The Complex’s gutters have now been replaced, and new copper and metal flashing has been added to the exterior, and support posts and beams.
A 125 thousand dollar investment from the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s Community Investment Fund helped the Museum, and Gitxaala to fund the repairs.
