Mayor Bob Simpson had some strong words for Quesnel residents after a Covid outbreak was declared at GR Bake Memorial Hospital.
Simpson says the outbreak is the result of overwhelming the hospital with high rates of unvaccinated individuals with severe Covid symptoms.
Quesnel’s urban residents are currently 70 percent double vaccinated, and rural residents sit at just 64 percent fully protected.
According to the Mayor, the city is facing the consequences of a failure to collectively trust the science and health officials.
He says that the city is fortunate that other Health Authorities have been able to accept the 65 patients transferred from Northern hospitals so far.
Simpson is urging his community to get vaccinated so they can return to a normal life and protect their vulnerable neighbours.
