The BC Labour Relations Board has ruled that industrial camp operator, Civeo breached Board code in not allowing local workers to speak with UNITE HERE Local 40.
Back in June, UNITE HERE Local 40 let Civeo know that they were going to visit and then organize their non union employees.
According to the Union, Civeo then got in touch with the BC Regional Council of Carpenters and denied Local 40 access to their camps.
The move in question prevented the workers from choosing which union they wanted to join, if they wanted to join one.
In the end, the Labour Relations Board agreed with Local 40 that Civeo improperly interfered with the union’s operations and as a result, the contract with the Council of Carpenters has been cancelled.
The company must now allow all Unions to speak with their employees.
