Kelly Lake, in Northeast BC, is set to become the newest Métis Nation of BC Chartered Community.
A meeting held late last month made the decision to make the community, near the Alberta border, the 39th Chartered Community.
Chartered Communities serve as local hubs where Métis can access the services and programs offered by the Nation.
Kelly Lake was founded in 1910 by Métis from the Peace River area and has a strong history of Métis artisanship.
The new community will join the Nation’s Northeast sector, also known as Region 7.
