More than 630 hours of support services have been lost to students in the Prince George School District already this year, according to the District.
That compares to just over 100 hours across the same time last year, and the District says it’s mostly due to inadequate staffing levels.
According to the District’s Teachers’ Association, they currently only have 35 on call substitute teachers, a third of what they require.
This leads to support staff such as librarians, counselors, and second-language support staff, needing to fill in in classrooms, which takes their services away from students in need.
The District is telling parents to voice concerns over declining support services for their children to their MLAs, and Board trustees.
