An in-depth investigation in to the cause of the wildfire which devastated Lytton this summer has been completed by the Transportation Safety Board.
In their report, the Board looked in to the last train to head through the area prior to the fire, a CP owned train, operated by CN crews.
They examined camera footage from the train, which passed through Lytton 18 minutes prior to the fire, as well as footage from the preceding train.
In addition, the Board looked in to rail grinding activities in the area, safety reports, and reports of a coal-like substance found near the tracks.
That substance was examined and compared to those produced by the trains, and was found to have little in common.
After extensively reviewing all of the above, the TSB did not find any evidence of a link between the fire and the train.
The BC Wildfire Service is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
