Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs say that they will continue to challenge RCMP presence on their land, despite injunctions.
RCMP are present on the territory to enforce an injunction to allow the 670 km Coastal GasLink pipeline to continue construction on their land.
But, after years of fighting the injunction and the pipeline, the Wet’suwet’en refuse to stand down.
In a new release, Jennifer Wickham, media rep for the Gidimt’en checkpoint, says that all five houses have decided that no pipeline will ever be built on their land.
In the same release, Wickham notes that their efforts will help to protect clean drinking water, and salmon populations for future generations.
Coastal GasLink maintains that they sought and acquired approval from all elected band councils, as required in the permitting process.
