Relations between Rio Tintio and Nechako River area First Nations appear to be improving.
A group of First Nations from the area will bring a lawsuit against the company forward in 2022, addressing the health of the river.
They argue that, since the Kenney Dam was built in the 50s, river flow and as a result, salmon levels, have been significantly reduced.
But recently, the Nations say, they have begun to form a relationship with Rio Tinto Alcan, and hope that makes a compromise possible.
A representative of the Nations says that one solution could be pouring water over the Dam on occasion, which would reduce power levels, but increase water flow.
It is their intent to come to a solution that balances the flow of jobs with the flow of salmon in the River.
