A conference call from this morning saw Prime Minister Justin Trudeau chastised for his recent treatment of Indigenous people.
NDP MP Charlie Angus took the lead on the call, accusing the PM of spending millions on legal battles against First Nations, instead of in support of them.
Angus outlined four key issues to address immediately: accept the Court’s ruling and end the legal battle against Indigenous children, deal with the miscarriage of justice around the St Annes Residential School survivors, remove Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett from cabinet, commit to a plan to hold the Catholic Church accountable and have them release pertinent documents.
The call was triggered by Trudeau’s decision to spend Truth and Reconciliation Day with family in Tofino, rather than at honourary ceremonies held across the country.
