Three First Nations have come to an historic agreement with the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.
A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed in Vanderhoof tomorrow to solidify the agreement.
It is the first agreement of its kind between an Indigenous Nation and non-Indigenous local government in BC.
Signed by the Saik’uz, Stellat’en, and Nadleh Whut’en Nations, the agreement will address the management and restoration of the Nechako River and its tributaries.
According to the Nations, the Kenney Dam has altered the river, and significantly impacted fish habitats in the area.
The MOU outlines the commitment of both both parties to work together to restore the health of the Nechako.
