Today is the last day for those named in a lawsuit filed by the Hagwilget First Nation Government to respond in court.
The lawsuit relates to the handling of a trust fund derived from a 2009 settlement for damages incurred by the destruction of a fishery in 1959.
That settlement saw 19 million dollars placed in a trust, which was intended to provide annual funds for the Nation.
But according to a civil claim filed in 2019, the Hagwilget Rock Society, set up to distribute the funds, failed in its duties.
According to the claim, an audit revealed a number of questionable transactions undertaken by the Society.
The Nation claims hundreds of thousands of dollars were illegally withdrawn from the Trust for personal use, as well as travel expenses, income for friends, and oversight payments.
Named in the suit are former Chief Councilor Dora Wilson, along with three former village trustees, Gary Underhill, Gordon Sebastian, and Gail Lowry.
Financial companies Royal Trust, and the Edmison Mehr accounting group, are also named.
